I've bought a track on iTunes store and want to play it on my phone (samsung d900) but it doesnt support m4p, only mp3
Is there a free converter or something?
I heard about hymn but that looks complicated, there must be a 1-click program?
thanks

Nope. Your best bet is to burn it to a CD from inside iTunes, and re-rip.
what Jonny M says is correct.
"m4p" is DRM'd AAC audio. it's carefully designed to only work on permitted, licensed devices (such as an iPod or with iTunes on permitted machines). youo need to strip the DRM somehow - either by burning as an audio CD and re-ripping (which will lead to crap audio quality) or with something like Hymn, which will let you strip off the DRM (but is in violation of your license from apple, and illegal in most of the western world)
there are no 1-click apps because what you want to do is illegal
Welcome to the wonderful world of online music sales where they tell you how and where you will listen to the music you payed for* :D
* I'll not say bought, because you are technically leasing it from them unti they decide you can no longer listen to the file without paying more money for it.
I could post a link to the latest decent Apple DRM removale tool, but it probably against the rules.
So all i will say is, don't seach on Engadget, they have not been talking about it a lot recently at all you know.

Sums it up really.
Biggest farce for a long time.
The thing that I can't quite believe is that people will pay a slightly lower price, for a significantly inferior product.
and in many cases, you can get the far superior product for less anyway.
I don't know iTunes pricing, but i'm pretty sure you can get older albums for a *lot* less in local and indipendant music stores, Fopp is a great place for this. Amazon (and now Play) have new and used items from other sellers. You can quite happily pick up albums from mainstream and obscure artists for a few pounds.
itunes = pointless...imho of course :)
Yeah, although part of the probelm is, i dont want a CD!!!
- The few time i do buy a CD, i just open it, rip it to MP3, and put the disk on the shelf to gather dust.
- I was looking at a picture of my room from 2years ago, and notice that 3 of the four racks of music i have where still in exactly the same order as when the photo was taken. They litteraly havent mored once in 2years!!
Daniel
Just think of it as a permentant backup :)
I'm the opposite, i want the CDs. Just paying for a bunch of downloaded files doesn't seem the same to me, it's not shopping.
I have fast approaching a thousand albums which used to live on shelves on my wall. Now i'm boxing them up and going to store them on a pallet, on a rack in our warehouse at work. Same goes for my DVDs when i get the storage space to rip them to .ISO files (albums are already ripped to FLAC, singles are my next project)
You say that like it's a bad thing! You have maximim quality backups that you can re-rip if your HDD goes down or in a couple of years you find you would prefer to have you music in a different format or higher quality.
Let face it, highly compressed music will a thing of the past in a few years, everything will be lossless.
BTW, Marcos I have PM'd you a link to what your are looking for.
Would anybody be willing to help me convert a single file? I just downloaded a single song form itunes and only then did I realize all this stuff about converting formats. Being a student I hardly have alot of cash spare as it is, so I don't really want to fork out money for one of these programs for just one song. If anyone could spare some time for this request I would be really grateful!
Well I did try one of the trial versions of a converter program (forgot the name) and i managed to get 30 secs converted to MP3, so does that mean this particular file can be converted without worrying about apple preventing the conversion?
P.S. at the batman image
That would depend on whether you were asking if it could *technically* or *legally* be done. Technically it looks like you have your answer, legally I think you probably know the answer...
You might want to stop promoting your own product...

I used to tie the speaker out and line in and record using sound recorder in XP, now i use Protected Music Converter, can remove drm on m4p and wmvs....
*stoats*.com
I am using *llamas* M4P Converter which uses virtual technology for burning protected music.
To my surprise, *llamas* can convert my iTunes library (containing more than one thousand m4p songs) at a time! Converting speed is super fast! Output file quality is excellent!
Highly recommended!
