    DirectX 9L is directX 10 for XP

    According to http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=35110

    I hope so, it will make Vista an optional purchase which must be good news for a lot of gamers.

    It's not. FUAD is just being a dope again.

    DX9.0L is the DirectX 9.0 Layer for Vista. Basically, DX10, unlike earlier DirectXs, is not backwards compatible. For Vista to run DX9 games, it needs the DX9.0L layer to translate.

    He's also written his article in such a way that suggests you'll need a DX10 card to play Crysis... no.

    You'll need DX10 software installed, but it'll use whatever paths (e.g. DX9) are available to it to do its rendering. Not going to get overly technical because I'm not Rys and so woudl get it wrong, but that's the way things work, have done for as long as I can remember... simple.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    yeah, I find myself disbelieving the FUD that is written on that site more and more :S.
    Think how pissed off people will be when they post the real story... even though its been known for ages that DX10 needs Vista and vice versa to run DX10 games.

    Agreed. I got severely p*ssed off with INQ and binned my RSS feed from them a long time ago. Without meaning any disrespect to anyone, any individual who gets their information on new IT stuff solely (or at least mainly) from theinquirer.net is seriously misinformed. And some folk think THG is bad...?

    The errors in Fuad's articles can rarely be counted on 1 hand.
