Question CODECS?ubuntu youtube etc going slow.some no video.

obviously a codec issue not a slowdown of this machine (even though its a 1.67 xp2100 underclocked to 880mhz this shouldnt make a difference as runs divx/xvid from hard drive fine!)
so what codec do i need or is there something on the nvidia driver i have missed? could people go over the steps to install a geforce4mx 440 64mb agp 4x card as i've done the following:
    1.sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx nvidia-settings
    2.sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Here you will have to configure the X for YOUR pc) Remember to choose nvidia and not nv as the driver and check the glx modules and uncheck the dri and GLCore modules
    3. sudo nvidia-glx-config enable
    4. Reboot the X and DONE!!

where am i going wrong? any codec packs i need to install? i've installed most via automatix...
    cheers

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

well for starters - are you meant to be using the new nvida drivers (I assume so) or the old ones.

If your meant to be using the new ones - your not meant to install nvidia-settings as that is linked to nvidia-legacy

nvidia-settings is part of nvidia-glx. Its possible you've installed the old nvidia drivers (legacy)

Here is a quote from the wiki (the one I am constantly asking you to read)

If you are running Hoary Hedgehog or Breezy Badger, then install nvidia-settings and nvidia-xconfig. DO NOT install either package in Ubuntu 6.06 LTS because it will remove nvidia-glx. These programs are now provided in nvidia-glx.
    It is Inevitable.....

What exactly is the problem? Just Flash animations running slowly? If so, Flash 7 always runs slow on GNU/Linux. If you're feeling adventurous, you could always try the Flash 9 Beta.

Don't forget that some Flash websites won't work because they'll be demanding Flash 8/9.
