Ethernet an help
I have a HP Pavillion desktop with a broken ethernet port.
I installed a new ethernet port, which allows me internet access. My problem is that my internet connection sometimes goes out (checked Internet service and router boh are fine) which I think is contributed to the broken ethernet port.
The reason I say this is my computer keeeps reading this port and displays is status in the system tray even though this port is receiving no internet connection. I have a feeling my computer is mixing signals with my funcioning ethernet port.
I can not disable the ethernet port in Network Connections because my computer freezes, I can't delete it either. I can't remove the port as it is attached to the mother board.
My question is two-fold how can I disable this ethernet port and make my computer recognize the functional ethernet port in my system tray.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

what you can do, is in device manager disable network devices, of which this is one, then add an ethernet card or another way of access and it should ignore the broken one

Best bet is to go into your BIOS when the computer first starts up and disable it in there :)
Failing that, you can disable it through device manager.

didnt know you could do it in bios :) always best to do things via the bios if possible
