Vista needs to muck around with your bootloader code, and something is clearly confusing it.
Just leave all your drives enabled and set the boot order to the normal method you'd use for XP then install Vista and select the OS you want at boot time. If you want to change defaults you can use bcdedit or Vista Boot Pro.

If you installed vista from within XP ie by putting the DVD in and following the instructions for an advanced install to your second hard drive then vista will have modified the boot record for Xp on your first hard drive. By disabling hard drive one you will have removed the boot loader for XP and vista, hard drive two won't have a boot loader on it.
It should have worked if you had booted to the vista DVD and installed it from there on your second hard drive.

No, you need to reinstall vista.
Best is to do a clean install in which you boot from the DVD and then choose your 2nd HD for the Vista install. Vista needs to write the bootloader code to your first HD and it looks like this didn't happen the first time you installed it because it was disabled.
Unfortunately a full install seems to be the only way to get the bootloader right now, no doubt this will change as Vista matures.

If you installed correctly from within Xp then on boot you should get a screen letting you choose to boot to legacy windows (XP) or vista ?

thats because the "spyware stuff" probably modified images on the system. The beta won't take kindly to that

no, you musn't expect products designed for one OS to work with a constantly changing BETA OS that has a radically overhawled kernel protection system.

You really shouldn't need anti-spyware, unless your a goose stepping moron, a virus scanner will pick up all "real" threats.

Tip, don't play with beta's unless you have plenty of time and experiance.

    well put TheAnimus

Vista comes with microsofts own anti-spyware software as it is..why bother with another one (even if it is 'superior', which is debatable if you ignore any anti-microsoft snobbery). If you are sensible then anti-spyware software is not really needed anyway, and the need for a full time virus scanner is also debatable..if you (again) use common sense then simple web based scanners will suffice...especially when you are using beta software that, despite seeming very similar to XP to the end user is actually completely different under the hood.
