Go into device manager and select the port - in its properties you will see the option to alter its speed IIRC.

it depends on the SIE (Serial interface encoder)

Some will even do upto a megabyte a second (can't remeber chipset number off top of mi head sorry). RS232 has no limit on signal transmission

But the device your talking to has to support it.

The list in device manager is adapative to the chipset, so either the driver is wrong, or the SIE dosen't support it.

485, is VERY different to 232 iirc. Voltage, and pin assignment been different.

Its also worth noting that the speed you set in device manager is actually the default speed, most applications don't use the default they manually specify the baud rate (speed), the parity, the stop. so its worth checking the software settings.

indeed, i'm on a tablet that has no rs232, but the virutal COM port for the bluetooth interface is 921,600 max speed. not shabby!

Once again you must be aware of the difference between 485 and 232, else you WILL get magic smoke.

You will find a lot of the PCI RS232 controllers have a much bigger max baurd rate than the build in ones (as they use better sie)
