    PC Back Up to Speed

    Hello all,

I'm aware that formatting your PC is the best way to do this and I have split my HDD into two sections so I can easily format BUT, what's the easiest way to bring your PC back to speed besides formatting?

Are there any applications or is it a case of manually shifting through files? If so, can you suggest things to do?

    Cheers fellas,

OOh, lots of things to do - I'd google a few tweak guides.

    Routine things I do include:
    Update Anti-virus then scan
Update Anti-spyware then scan (SpyBot S&D, ADAware, Defender)
    Create new system restore point
    Uninstall unused programs
Clean up web browser cookies and temp files
Run diskcleanup to remove other temporary files
Clean registry (regseeker or many others)
Defragment hdd - if using windows then do this several times including after a reboot.
Turn off any program 'starter applications' that install elements into memory (eg acrobat reader, office).
Have a look at the startup programs in msconfig and disable ones that you don't need and can't get rid of any other way.

    Start
    Run

    type msconfig

    choose the last tab (Startup)

Google all the names and see what you dont need.

Reboot, click the box to not bother you again.

If anything doesn't work, rerun msconfig and retick it

A fresh install, pre drivers has NOTHING in it. nvidia and ati leave a few, but printers, download agents, java auto updates, and my pet hate.....QUICK TIME, can all go.

They'll still work, just wont be on in the background all the tme
