While working on my own Windows XP Unattended Installation I decided to add drivers and found a large collection at http://www.driverpacks.net, which was very useful though made the install .iso about 800 Mb+. Could save a lot of hastle for those who want a generic install disc.

Office 2003 can be integrated as well with instructions here.

Most of the information I found on this came from the MSFN guide.

so u mean to say u just add in all the installation software u wish to use onto nlite and after the windows disk is finished buring, windows will format and install all the programs, ie, drivers, anti virus ms office all at the same time?

The Windows install has a built in mode for installing patches - usually used by network admins. nLite takes advantage of that, and as well as allowing you to slipstream all the patches (and IE7 and the likes), you can also add these programs, and nLite treats them in the same way, so they'll be already installed when Windows first loads after install.

Drivers are much the same - SATA and RAID drivers being installed via nLite is a Godsend for those who don't use floppy disks any more. You just need to make sure you add the drivers with their .inf file (ie extracted from any archive). Pointing nLite at a .zip file or a self-extracting .exe won't work.

I've been having some issues with nLite recently - the latest versions aren't letting me slipstream drivers to Windows Media Center 2005 for no apparent reason. That's the only issue I've had recently to be honest, though I don't generally use its ability to strip programs from the install.

    Yes, j.o.s.h.1408, you got it!

@ this_is_gav - Unfortunately I can't confirm your drivers issues with WMC, I use WinXP Pro and I have no problems so far.

Yeah, XP Pro works fine (just use nLite for slipstreaming drivers at work), but MCE just causes a registry error (can't write to registry or something similar) when it goes to integrate the drivers.

Re: [GUIDE] Integrate software into your Windows installation CD

I made a new XP install disk back in July/August using nLite; great tool! My new install disk puts in SP2 and all post-SP2 hotfixes (though July '07) in during the WIndows install, and also installs Powertoys, IE7, Firefox, WGA, the newest DirectX 9, and presets many of my old tweaks and custom settings. I love it! In a year or so, I'll have to make a Vista one as well with vLite.
