Weird arrow symbols showing up on my desktop icons

Hi, I recently changed the path of my desktop in the registry to be a network folder so I could access it from any computer.

All of a sudden, I get these weird arrow signs on all of my desktop icons.

I don't mind them b/c they let me know if something on the desktop is actually in my local "All Users" desktop, or in my user account's desktop (which is the network folder).

But I'd still like to know what they are???
    Anyone know? Thanks

They indicate that these are files or folders that are synchronised, so that in the event of your network connection going tits up, you'd still be able to work on them, and the changes would be synched back to the network folder upon reconnection.

Oh I see. Thanks very much for replying. Do you know how the syncronization process works? Is it supposed to happen automatically?? Because I never set it up. All I did was change a registry value.....

I mean, is it "actually" synched, or do you think I just "tricked" it into thinking those were synched files by messing around with the registry?

    Much appreciated!

O actually, you are right.... it syncs whenever I log off now. Cool!

If you don't want/need the syncing you can turn it off in Control Panel > Folder Options > Offline Files.

Having started using wireless laptops at work recently, I'm going to start using this feature... wireless is a bloody pest.
