Now that AVG is switching off their free service, can anyone recommend a decent replacement? Needs to keep out the way and not consume 900 MB of RAM ideally...

not used it myself though
if you browse the darker side of the net, the you might want to consider something from here:

I still love anti-vir http://www.free-av.com/
It's free, it works, it's GermanWhat more do you want.
(you occasionally used to get customer surveys in German, but they seem to have fixed that) and I've never had a virus problem with it in 4 years or so.
They told me I was gullible ... and I believed them.
I've used avast for about 2-3 years and I think its a great freebie anti-virus. I switched to it from AVG, because at the time AVG auto-updates used to take far too long (I think the downloads where from New Zealand lol).
Avast has caught numerous attacks on my PC, mainly from dodgy (ahem!) websites that manages to sneak stuff into ur temporary internet files.
I use AVG and how many people are thinking that it is completely going to waste!
I use AVG, doesn't seem to have any issues. I tried something else, but the interface annoyed me somewhat. That may have been Avast. Just get AVG Free 7.5 when 7.1 disappears.
