    Website from picture

I've knocked up a picture of how I want a site to look, whats the best way of recreating it?

Can you save PSD's as web pages??

I'm capable of recreating it from scratch, but it wont be perfect, and curiosity has me wondering if theres a way to export direct to html.

Unless you open it up in ImageReady and create slices/rollovers for each part.. but the coding is horrible! ..But it is a possible option.

There are also companies around that I have seen advetising to create you a website from your image in like 24/48 hours.. obviously this costs couldn't tell you prices though.. never really looked into it.

I have a friend in Columbia who uses a similar technique to plan their site designs ... I'll ask her what software she uses to do this tonight (darn time differences!)

    Ok wicked,

Im more intrigued than anything, I could knock it up close to the design from zip, but was wondering if its possible to do it another way.

I was looking for something like this for a furniture site I did recently which required a lot of graphics (www.cantikhome.com) . Unfortunately I came to the directhex conclusion that it's a horrible idea, and dropped it. Everything was done using css for floating elements, background images, and lots of transparent gifs....

It's one of my least favourite parts of web development...such a slog...

i used to use Photoshop to mock up websites, but didn't creat them directly from the image. It was just a quicker way to get the general design sorted out before doing any coding.

Automated tools have always been and probably will always be horrible things. Hand coding is still the best way of doing things.

Paint Shop Pro has an export feature, you can export it to HTML, it lets you cut up your images into as many pieces as you want - but it outputs in tables...
Please do not message me about Scan Free shipping, I no longer work for HEXUS.net

I work as a web developer.

Personally I do the design in photoshop.

then work out what sort of table structure i need and write the html for it

I try to use css as much as poss for styles but sometime i have to cut parts of the image from the photoshop file (logos etc) and re save them in a web ready format then put them in the html.

When i was in college I used fireworks to slice and save for web. using dreamweaver/fireworks tools could make a site with roll over buttons in no time but the code was horrible and wasn't exactly cross browser compatible.
