    New Msn Virus

Just something to look out for, and to tell your non techy msning friends

    It says:

    is that u? http://oliphotos.ol.funpic.org/index.php?pic2038.jpg

as you can see thats not really an image and trys to get you to download a pif file.

I can find any reference to it so its probably new.

Meh, if you use IE 7 or FF 2 then you'll be fine even if you do click them. I'm guessing IE have dropped their stupid auto-download thing when it encounters a certain file?

just sends a link to everyone automatically when you talk to them on msn! One of my friends got a similar thing which said 'like this halloween picture of you and then gave a similar link'.

I was about to ask a question about a computer infestation.

Tell me, if someone has invited this onto their machine, does this invited-virus by any chance make any selected-scrollable constantly scroll? (I've tried 2 mices, so is definitely software).

The last time I had a major infestation was with my sons clicking them in via MSN.

Yeah i too have suffered with this crap today as my stupid sister decided to click on the ridiculous link, however its just not one thing it decides to open/ download or retrieve like a hundred more trojans onto the pc, atm ive got everything gone except for what jackvdbuk, the thing on the startup except mine isnt to install something its some web link to some toolbar crap. Also whilst im on occasionally avg detects some threat so i presume it just wont go away. Spybot detects some Command Service threat and can get rid of 1 out of the 3 things found within it, something about a process running in the memory so it cant be deleted then it goes on your next bootup (restart) it will scan again and try to delete it however it comes up with the same error saying running in memory process and cant delete it so im stuck with this little bugger on my pc, anyone got any ideas?

Try something like spybot search and destroy or ad-aware (update them first). Also, if its nasty enough to detect these progs and shut them down, run them from a usb memory stick. If that fails, find a anti-virus program that can be run from safe mode or safe mode command prompt.

Yeah, I spent a while cleaning out a PC with this tonight - seems to be a persistent wee bugger to get rid of!

Ad-Aware + AVG + MSN Messenger reinstall did it in the end though.

His MSN install was odd, instead of msnmsgr.exe, it was msff.exe or something like, which was odd.

AVG/Ad-Aware + reinstall MSN if necessary (i.e. MSNmsgr.exe has been renamed, indicating its been changed I guess) seemed to do the trick for me

The virus itself will corrupt your registry if left alone. I have managed to get rid of it but now there is one we little bugger piece of malware that just wont go away all it does is open up a webpage when i load up internet explorer (only ie) for the first time when i boot my pc, if i cant find a solution for this im gonna have a good old reinstall on windows.
