auto back up for pendrive?

i use my thumb drive (2GB) for savign all college work and soemtimes (when i can be bothered i copy all files over to my hdd (at home) but the problem is theres aoe2 on it. that is about 300mb so copying all the files (even the ones that are already takes soem time... anyone know of an automatic all back up software app that does it automatically when i put the drive in?

You could make a xcopy/robocopy script to do it... or if scripting seems too daunting, microsoft have synctoy which is pretty handy.. you can then just put the command into the autorun on the pendrive and hey presto

Could you do something like a briefcase? So that it synchros the files on the drive and the pc when you plug it in (not sure how it'd work so that the files on the pen drive didn't overwrite), but it should work as a quick fix with no extra software.

I think he means putting an 'Autorun.inf' file on the root of the pendrive with something like:

open=[path to synctoy]

Is there some code that you can put into your pc autorun that checks for a drive and backs everything up if it's in?

Its theoretically very easy to do... lol but beyond my scripting skillz (ie i cant script for toffee)

I guess a crude way to do it would be to specifiy a absolute path to say synctoy... eg programfiles/synctoy that way if the key was placed into a machine without synctoy, it would just pop up a error message.

i was a bit bored, so i've made you an autorun thing, simply extract the files to the base directory of your pendrive, and then when the drive is plugged in you will be given the option to 'run synctoy' from the autorun menu

All you have to do is open the runbackup.bat file in notepad and adjust the line:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\SyncToy\Synctoy.exe"

and change it to wherever you have installed synctoy
