Can Vista be purchased from US and installed in UK?

Can you purchase Vista Home Premium from the states and install it on a machine in the UK? When you convert the cost of the US version to the UK version there is something like a £90 difference between the two. UK always get swindle with everything we pay higher for nearly every single thing on the planet

I did a quick price conversion using the listed £219.00 price of amazon.co.uk for Vista home premium and the result was:

(Full RETAIL verions)

UK £219.99 = US $435.32

Now its gonna be pretty obvious that in the US they aint gonna be charged $435.32 to buy home premium heck i'll be suprised if they get charged that for Ultimate. Makes me mad

This was the price that Amazon.com had for Ultimate edition: -

So yea as i thought you can get Vista Ultimate from the states and it would be still cheaper then buying Windows home premium here in the uk, now WHY!? Grrrrr

You have to remember about the import tax when you buy from outside the EU. I purchased a couple of video training CDs from the states and had to pay £15 on top of the £30 I paid for the CD's. I have no idea how they calculate it though.

I think as well they get classed as 'grey imports' which has something to do with have no support or something.

Looks like we are just getting 'cattle prodded' into buying full blown retail tag thats twice as much as anywhere else on the planet.

Its not twice as much as anywhere else on the planet, It seems cheaper because the doller to pound ratio is stacked in our favour.

Personlly im gna stay with XP Pro for another year!

Well to be honest if you buy the cheaper versions of Vista, or indeed any microsoft product, you find you are walled out from good features that you don't really notice until you need it. For example, Administrator tools in XP Pro... I will be getting Ultimate just because it has everything and I want to be able to do everything, but at the same time I don't expect to pay the equivalent of an overpriced hardware upgrade for it...

Vista Home Premium is around the same price as an XBox 360. Also you could buy a full PC with Vista installed for around the same price. Yet you still dont think its overpriced??

Don't buy it? How else do you expect to use DX10?

PC users who put Microsoft where they are now and yet they price an OS at the same price as a full hardware console...

You're comparing OEM to retail there. You'll be able to buy OEM licenses for a lot less than the retail prices we've seen quoted (as you can with XP). The price of XP Home retail is £170 on Scan, and doesn't feature the Media Center the Vista Home Premium comes with.

We aren't even sure of the retail prices yet, so it's all based on conjecture and couple of pre-ordering locations, that if history taught us anything, are generally not particularly representative of what the final prices will be.

So what are people willing to pay for OEM versions then? or how much do you
