    Code Libraries

A question for the developers amongst you, the company I work for has a very successful "core sdk" it contains most of the usual function used in this company, things like Traffic flow measurements etc, i work for Trafficmaster (blue poles - measuring uk road delays)

But my point is that the C++ coders have got this sorted, most of the code exists, for new apps it just gets bolted together with things added as required.

The interesting thing is there are 3 web developers, and myself and another guy who are perfectly capable of doing web work, when resource is short and timescales are tight, but i've just realised that i've got my own code libraries for javascript functions (things like SQLSafe etc) but none of the others do, things like CDOSYS functions, Stored procedure array binds etc.

The question is should i allow the others to benefit from what is quite frankly my hard work out of office hours ?

They might just choose to ignore it, they aren't the most technical savvy bunch of people and don't like change....

Depends on your motivations I guess. You're confident you can hold your own against the other developers so if your code is reliable and well documented then it could keep the other programmers happy and / or win you brownie points with the management (depending on how much of a fuss you make - if they aren't doing things properly you could win major brownie points for standardising and improving stuff but then again that assumes that your manager(s) care about anything other than it just working well enough).

Just comments on it saying "this was programmed by me, blah blah" unless they change it then it's yours and I'd share them.

Tricky one really. IP ownership of code can get very murky very quickly. Depends on what your reasons would be for releasing the code into the company...

    I'd keep it to yourself.

The extra speed that results from your library should only impress the powers that be. If you can do that; maybe it increases possibilty of promotion etc?
