Colleague is having a few problems (presumably) with .psd files that were created on a mac but wont open on the pc..
Photoshop CS2
Any ideas?
I also, presume, .psd is a multiplatform filetype? I may be wrong here, and this may be the problem...

you should be fine to move a psd between computers just make sure that the pc has the same or greater version
i've never had a problem in the past. Not used a Mac in years, but it's never been an issue for me.
Does the file actually have a .psd ending though? I know Macs never used to use file name suffixes, they store the file type in the fileing system. Photoshop won't open a file with a bad file type suffix in windows. Like if you rename a .gif to a .jpg my mistake, it won't open. Other apps will actually inspect the file to see what it is before trying to open it, PS doesn't do this.
I've never had a problem going between mac and pc's with photoshop files, we do it all the time here at work..
Both mac and pc are CS2 I presume?

Only problem ive come across when moving files from Mac to a PC is sometimes they move without any file extensions, solved by simply adding the .xxx to the end of the file![]()

It's strage, we seem to have 2 copies of the files.
a set of 1kb ones (presumably the mac filesystem/shortcut or something) called ._filename
and then the actual files below...
think it's just a case of ditching the ._ 's
where are these files being saved? Is it to a Windows server box or something?
i guess the ._filename will be OSXs way of retaining the files meta data on a non OSX native file system.
