Anyone have any idea when Office 2007 will be shipped to Action Pack subscribers?
I really want to format my laptop, but want to wait for Office 2007 first, saving messing about and installing 2003 then upgrading.

i've been running the two side by side for quite some time now. Only problem is outlook (just using 2k3 because we are on v old exchange)
SOrry for the hijack, but is 2007 really worth bothering with? The interface looks absolutely dire imo. Having said that, come next pay day im having a new hard disk and moving over to linux anyway, since i very rarely if ever game on this machine.

Well 2007 Beta really did suck... cant see any advantage. Unless your some hardcore Word addict!
In the long-term it's going to be excellent. Obviously people just have to relearn the basics applicable to us, and those training and doing videos have a bit more work to do :P
Personally, I find every thing's just easier to go to. It's all very, very logical. Photoshop had a more basic version of the same function for year (with the dynamic toolbars depending on the tool selected), and Office just takes a step further forward.
It's not new, it's just new to Office. Working on a PC will go this way.
What's more potentially more interesting is how the likes of OpenOffice respond, if at all.
@ Funkstar: do you have BETA2 you could whack on there for a while? It's not overly different, and very little cosmetically. I can understand why you don't want to install a previous version though - with our own custom versions of Office, doing an upgrade (no matter how) can simply result in the Installer rolling back for no apparent reason, leaving you with no Office at all.

The new word features are an improvment, as for paying for an upgrade, enless your well off / need to upgrade for the new features. Then i wouldn't bother.
If your a student, then yes. Do it as soon as you can will really help with write ups etc.
As for oo office, well at least it dosen't cost anythign to download but it really isn't on par with office 95 yet.
Its worth saying the beta wasn't stable or fast until Tech Refresh of Beta 2.
The speed/memory difference was massive.
Its expensive, but for buisness users worth it, for students the discounted version is well worth it.
meh, KOffice > OOo anyway.
If i was actually paying or Office or the upgrades, there is no way i could justify it. The only app i use regularly is Outlook. Access comes second but by a long way.
My reasoning for moving of Office 2007 is to try and stay current while i can. I've been left behind IT wise in many many areas because i just don't deal with it day to day. It's only recently i've got up to speed with current hardware, i used to be obsessed with knowing what was what.
I'm not going to install any of the Betas, i'd rather just stick to 2003 than do that. I'm guessing there will be something though the post somtime later this month. I'm sure i can put up with McAfee bugging me and IE7 being really slow for a few more weeks :)

Office 95 was ahead of its time, but OpenOffice is comparable to Office XP (3 revisions further to 95) with some features adopted by 2007. I'm not going to list the pros and cons against that of Office, but needless to say if you do a quick Google, it'll do it for you.
OpenOffice 1 was a bit... tame. OpenOffice 2 raised the bar quite a lot - though it's still not up to 2003s standard in my opinion.
how can one easily make a user defined function? 123 was more advanced.
nothing to match viso yet, not even close.
Now a quick google still fails to bring up anything major that 95 didn't have (accept file formats)
I'm buying it (for work) simply for the new UI - the old one was dire and I won't miss it one bit. Are you all mad ? lol :)
Second week of January apparently. So not long now mate. I quite like it btw, the UI takes a bit of getting used to but it's much better to work with.
