    Vista Lauch

    Hi Guys,

Sorry I am new to all this and am not very technical at all. this question might not even be in the right place but i was wandering about windows vista.

when is it out in the UK and how much is it?

also is there anything special being done for the launch or is it all going to be done by the companies selling it?

    cheers guys,

Looking forward to speaking to you.

not really the right place, a mod might move it.

    Its launched 30-jan-07.

Prices depend on what you get, there are:

    Home Basic
    Home Prem
    Business Basic
    Business Prem
    Ultimate

Then you need to know if you want OEM or retail.

Retail gets you a pretty box, and support, OEM is about a 3rd of the price, but has no support options. There is little point pre-ordering, but you should find that come the end of the month you can pick up vista ultimate OEM for 125pounds with vat.

OEM versions are also, at least in theory, locked (license-wise at least) to the machine they're supplied with, and non-transferable.

Of course, where that gets tricky is if you upgrade several components in the machine. I mean, if you upgrade the motherboard, processor and video card, is it still the machine?

From what I can make out, this is even more of a contentious area with Vista than it was with XP and before.
