What's needed is a cable/digital tuner card that will allow the use of a Sky card (or in my case a Telewest cable card) via a smartcard reader - ditch the unsightly cable box completely and you've got more of a workable proposition. The dual tuner idea is excellent; it's been a bugbear of mine that in at least one important respect (watch and record different channels) digital/cable TV has been a retrograde step from terrestrial TV. It's a pretty basic function. I'd personally like something like an EPIA/Hush-type system in place of the unholy mishmash of DVD player, VHS recorder, cable box, coffee maker (OK, I made that up) that sits under the TV, but it desperately needs that kind of functionality, and you can't tell me there's not a market for such systems (especially w/DVD writers dropping in price like the proverbial rock).
The biggest killer feature for HTPC software would be a flipping advert skipper! Record your fave programs and have the 5 minutes of adverts automatically removed!
