    16000 connections on Port 1682

My mate dropped me this message earlier, saying he'd been temporarily banned from the network because of the above reason.

Checked his uTorrent settings for what port that is using for all those linux distributions he's so familiar with (what they teach you in History degrees these days! ) and that doesn't correspond. Any ideas guys?

    I tooked it up: http://www.auditmypc.com/port/udp-port-1682.asp

Thats about as much as I could find.

Would event logger behold such information?

    Cheers!

uTorrent shouldn't create 16k connections unless your mate has set it up really badly. My first bet would be spyware/botnet.

The limts for max connections are in uT's preferences so it'll be easy to tell if it is the problem.

EDIT: wrong port then it isn't uT. start scanning for anythign horrible also try http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...g/TcpView.mspx

ahh, i read that wrong, didn't realise the timestamp meant it was an instantaneous reading.
i'm gonna go with some sort of spyware/botnet like chucky suggested.
is he directly connected to the uni intranet, or is there a router between?

    we've got 2 entries for C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe on 1692 - OH HOW I HATE LOGITECH SOFTWARE.

    Anything to do with it?

    Direct

Update: He claims he installed the software for his new webcam that morning (Logitech), backweb is bundled in with Logitech software I know for a fact. Get him to disable it in msconfig?

Well, merely disabling the backweb entry and restarting caused it to create ANOTHER entry and continue running.

Disabling all the god awful webcam entries for the Logitech software stopped backweb from re-appearing. Obviously it checks to see if backweb has been disabled and then re-enables it if necessary!

Hopefully his laptop is a lil bit speedier now too

It's serving 16,000 connections, not making them. Which is quite concerning if it really is the cam tools
