Dilemma - OS for new build now? (Vista or XP)

I am ordering my parts for a new C2D build, but have a problem in deciding upon the OS. I was originally going to purchase a new copy of XP home , £55 and upgrade to vista later in the year but since Vista is now available for about £80, 32bit home premium oem, i am now deliberating on which to go for??
Should i stick with my original plans or go with vista now?

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

on my completely new hardware box, i've had no complaints with vista at all.

Its more a case of whats the software that you like to work going to think.

There is nothing too stop you dual boating a home licesnse is only £50

for a new box, go the early-adopter route

buying a five-and-a-bit-year-old OS right now seems silly

    thx for the input.
Yes my foremost concerns are with compatibility with older programs and vista, if something doesn't run and im unable to utilize it. I don't want to have to revert back to my old system just to use a few programs, and its gonna be given as a hand-me-down anyway.

With dual booting its an option i guess but im a uni student and im strapped for cash as it is already after the new system ><
Plus i'd prefer to stick with one OS.

Are beta or trail versions still available?? beginning to wish i had tested it out...

Just dual boot like what others have suggested. im thinking of doing that too untill they fix all the bugs from vista with a sp1 kind of update.

You've never had a computer before and don't have a retail winxp CD?
If you install winxp you can upgrade later or have dual boot.

Ah! thought you had always built your own systems. Last time I bought a computer from a company it had win 3.0 installed and I was given the floppies.
