    They are the best free ones, but spybot and ad-aware let me down when I used it on my son's computer to remove a nasty advertising bug. Pctools have been offering a free bootup cd (boots in Linux) to remove spyware, but the time I went to try it on my son's computer, someone else had used Panda (huh) security suite and that removed the bug.

    As for a shield, I suppose everyone has their favourite and you will get a lot of answers.

    Ewido (Now known as AVG Anti-Spyware) i think its still on Ewido.net but i would expect the software to go downhill since AVG took over. Its already got a larger memory footprint.

    May i ask what Anti-Viral tool you are using, i am using Eset NOD32 and it to this date hasnt missed a single piece of malware.

    what has a small memory footprint? does ad-aware? i never really check its usage etc.

    Ad-Aware you wouldnt really count it as a memory footprint since its an On-Demand Scanner, it doesnt always reside in the memory like the Ad-Aware Pro ones do.

    ill stick with ad-aware for a while, been using it for around 3 years now and i have no reson to change
