    Vista and VNC

I'm thinking of upgrading my xp mce machine to vista.

I played with the release candidates, but at the time there wasn't a version of VNC that worked. As i don't have a keyboard and mouse attached to the machine I rely on vnc.

Is there any version of VNC that works under vista running as a service (ie not user level)
    Cheers

You want to install VNC server on Vista?.. why? RDP works much better and is well supported.

Indeed - why not use Remote Desktop

    It rocks!

Also you can have a Gadget for the sidebar which allows you to connect to console or normal connection....

    Try it!

I use UltraVNC without problems - works fine for me, and has file transfer built in (useful over the interweb). Need to change the location of the startup (sticking it in the startup folder in programs would do) if I remember correctly on Vista, but that's it (assuming Vista will be the host). Might just be if it's set to start as a service... I can't remember.

doesn't remote desktop still log off the session currently logged in?

I've always used vnc as this doesn't do that.

Also, is remote desktop included in vista home premium?

I know you can force RD in XP into multi user mode. It needs a replacement file and a couple of registry changes. Works well. I log in as admin on my MediaPortal box while watching TV under the MediaPortal user all the time

No idea about Vista though. I would think that if it is an Ultimate and Business only option then it should be more fully featured
