    Seti killing linux.

I have the i386-linux compiled version of seti@home.

I run it on a 233 processor, so it takes a while to do a WU. It has 160Mb RAM.

I run seti using nice -n 19 so it's at lowest priority, however after extended periods of time (several hours) my webservers crap out (apache and an apache powered web admin interface) and I start getting disk access errors.

    Any ideas why?

    Cheers,
    Unts.

CC runs on Red Hat 9.0

If seti doesn't support RH9, then I'm truly shocked!

edit: I installed it as an rpm too - all very redhat-like.

I always understood there where always some subtle, yet significant changes to CC which made it slightly different to full blown redhat.

Have you asked on the CC forums ?

when i was running seti under mandrake (8.2 and 9.0) i downloaded the windows binary, and ran it using WINE as that was said to give best performance, and it worked fine.. there are a few setiDriver-type clients for linux, but i didnt try many - i couldnt get the windows setiDriver working under wine

Hmmm, I don't have wine on the box and don't really fancy installing it on it - want to keep the crap to a minimum on my gateway.

I think it could be a hardware issue actually - the CPU doesn't seem to like a great deal of load (cough, overclocked, cough.)

OK, she's back to normal clock (200mhz) so I'm running seti again.

I'm hoping it was that, and not a dodgy divider on the PCI frequency at this fsb. It's at 83mhz fsb (max for the board) so I hope it does 2.5 divider, not 2 (which would give 41mhz, not 33!)
