    Question Which ffdshow?

A quick question about ffdshow, which version of it would you recommend?

I've always used the 'official' version available here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/
But the latest release was October 12th, 2004. Having browsed around I've noticed that there are in fact loads of newer builds of ffdshow, are they as reliable and stable though?

Free codecs for example has a new release that was released just yesterday: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm

On top of all that, there are also standard, MMX, SSE and SSE2 versions. What the devil is all that about?

    Which version comes recommended?

Thanks for the response mate, when I go to download from free codecs I get these options:

    Download [ FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2007-02-07 ]

    Download [ FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2007-02-07 MMX ]

    Download [ FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2007-01-19 SSE ]

Do you happen to know the difference between the normal, MMX and SSE version?

MMX and SSE are advanced instruction sets found on all modern CPUs that perform complex mathematics aimed at media encoding and decoding. Your CPU supports up to SSE3, so you'd get the 3rd package down.

At the moment I'm using Media Player 11 with Quicktime Alternative, Real Alternative and Ffdshow. I'm on Vista Ultimate and it's all working wonderfully.

You know you can just export the settings to a registry file, right?
