    Re-installing XP Pro

I bought a second-hand laptop last year with Windows XP Pro already installed. I have installed a bunch of applications on this laptop including Netobjects Fusion 9.0 which I have used to build my website.

I ran the Windows validation check on this laptop and it failed - not a 'genuine' copy of Windows XP Pro. I have purchased a genuine copy of XP Pro which I can install, so I would like to back up all my data, wipe the hard drive clean and re-install XP. However, I have had major problems in the past trying to rebuild my website from backed up Netobject Fusion files, so I am wondering if I would be able to just re-install XP without wiping the HDD clean? Anyone had any experience of re-installing a genuine copy over a non-genuine copy of XP Pro? Would it leave all my apps intact?

you may simply be able to change the product key within windows from the non-genuine one to the one you just bought

    (google suggests this)
