    VNC with Vista

    Dear all,

I have tried running VNC (real and ultra) with Windows Vista but i'm have having issues with speed. On the LAN it works slow, but on the WAN it's pretty much unusable. I have done a google and found this is a issue with some people.

Is anyone here experiencing the same problem? Is there a workaround?

I have a bad feeling the VNC companies need to update their software for Vista, so until then i guess it'll have to run slow....?

    Thanks all

    Darren

No issues here with UltraVNC with Vista Ultimate - using it over standard 1mb ADSL too.

Also have a connection to my main rig on XP, and if anything it's much slower - takes a while to connect. Once connected I can't see any differences in speed at all.

Just so it's clear. When connect from Vista to XP it's fine.

It's when you connect on and external IP from XP to Vista.

Could you maybe try that for me?

Is that not because you have more bandwidth available in your private network (100MB/sec?), and only a small amount of external bandwidth in comparison (2MB/sec?).

I can't check it over WAN, but I'm typing this from my HTPC (Vista) onto my main rig (XP) using UltraVNC, and everything's as speedy as I'd expect.

Tiny bit of corruption on the taskbar, but that's the only issue I've seen so far.

As I said, I know it's fine over WAN from XP to Vista, but I can't check it the other way.
