    No nView in Vista

OK I've installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my PC (see my spec) with my 6600GT.

I can't believe it but there is no nView support with either the built in Microsoft driver or even the latest nVidia Forceware driver Release 95 (97.46)

I thought Vista was supposed to be shipping as a finished product but it appears that I've got limited functionality. I love nView's features, allowing me to manage multiple monitors easily.

I want my nView back! And don't mention UltraMon - nView works perfectly on my XP system and I don't need to install any 3rd party software.

    Thanks for reading my rant!

nview IS third party software - on XP it's only included as part of the full nvidia redistributable

the blame lies with nvidia here, not microsoft

Directhex is right. Theres too many people blaming Vista for issues which actually lie with hardware support i.e. drivers

^^What they said - and I'm not wild about Vista. It has to be said that driver support, even from major manufacturers, has been EXTREMELY poor. Those of us on GF7-based SLI rigs, for instance, MIGHT get a driver for Vista sometime in March.

I'm not blaming Microsoft. I blame nVidia. But surely they've been working on Vista drivers for months. I believe they should have had enough time to bring out a full driver complete with all the features we expect when Vista launched at the end of January.

I mean it's not as if Vista has suddenly crept up on them is it????

No it's not on - shame on nVidia (and Creative for that matter). Not sure about ATI have they released a decent Vista driver?

OK, I know I've asked this question before but it's really bugging me!

Vista has been around for a good 5 (?) months now and nVidia still haven't released ForceWare drivers for Vista that include the nView toolbar.

I use a dual monitor setup every day and would really miss the nView toolbar if I moved from XP to Vista. Actually, that's putting it mildly - the single biggest reason why I don't use Vista as my main OS is the lack of driver support from nVidia! So here are a few questions:

    1. Do you think nVidia will ever release a Vista driver that includes the nView toolbar?

    2. If not do AMD/ATI cards support a similar feature in Vista? I know that XP drivers included Hydravision which in my opinion wasn't as good as nView but did at least allow switching of windows to different displays.

    3. How on earth does anyone running a dual monitor setup on Vista with an NVidia card cope? I think I'd go spare!!!

    4. Dare I ask about 3rd party software in desperation?? What about Ultramon or anything else?

    5. Is anyone else really frustrated about this or is it just me?

For anyone thinking driver development is easy, I dare them to go write their own 8800 DX10 SLi driver. Stop whining, Vista's display architecture is entirely new, it's going to take some time to get the whole thing licked, and even the little bugs in the WDDM sorted as well at Microsoft's end.

I can't accept that driver issues like this should take this long to be resolved. Vista has been around in Beta form (AKA Longhorn) for years and surely this should have kick started some action by nVidia. I appreciate that minor "tweaks" will be necessary but big stuff like nView etc should have been resolved at Vista launch.

Perhaps the nView technology just isn't possible with the tightened security within Vista? Maybe we'll never see it in a forthcoming driver?

Sorry to be a pain but could someone attempt to answer some of my other questions above.

That would just be a failure of imagination on your part.

There was even changes to WDDM between Beta and RTM release, we've all been just comfortable with Windows XP drivers being so stable and mature because the OS was 6 years old and inherited it's display architecture from as far back as Windows NT 3.5. When I say Vista's display architecture is entirely new, I mean it's *entirely* new, not just a rehash of previous Windows kernels. Seriously, coding drivers is tricky business, for graphics drivers especially, there is a *LOT* involved, and then when you go about designing a unified display architecture for a brand new userspace display subsystem things are even more complex. These things take time, complaining on hexus forums doesn't make the process any faster.

    Duuuude.. ouch!

I can completely understand people being frustrated - I know I am having spent my hard earned on a 8800 to find the drivers in a pretty terrible state (better of late tho..) - especially when they're not aware of the deep level changes in Vista. Ignorance != stupidity and all that.
