    Smile Restrict PC win XP

    Hi,
    I need your help!
My sister asked me if I can restrict her PC for her daughter.
I looks like she is surfing the net and getting into chat rooms not apropriate for her age.
She has access for AIM express, Myspace.com, MSN messenger and yahoo.
She learned how to enter into myspace using a proxy. (getmyspaceproxy,c0m ).
How can we block access to all the mentioned chat aplications and web enable software such as AIM Express and also myspace.com?

Please be patient explaining things, I'm a novice.

    Thank you.

My own personal preference (which I used for my own daughter) was Cybersitter:

    hi,
Blueball cybersitter works with proxy's too?
try entering into myspace,c0m using the web proxy I mentioned before. Let me know if cybersitter really blocks it.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.
i don't have it installed any more because my daughter is now old enough to surf sensibly. however, cybersitter is customisable so all you would have to do is to add the proxy domain to the list of banned sites and then she couldn't use the proxy either

You can password protect the cybersitter setting so that nobody can undo the settings.

You can get a free 10 day trial at:

may i add that none of the above applications are no replacement for monitoring the childs use on the computer. there is not much problems with msn as you have control over who is able to contact you.. there is also a good free blocker program built into windows called the hosts file. and you can block access to all sites by routing to 127.0.0.1

Thats a very good point. We worked with my daughter when she was younger to explain things and used cybersitter not to stop her but to protect her (dodgy links etc)

She is now a very sensible internet user
