Re: Vista and Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour
ok I had the same problem. c and c was telling me I had a hardware malfunction and that the game wouldnt start. what I did was
1. open note pad. copy and paste this info in:
AntiAliasing =
DrawScrollAnchor =
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 800 600
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = Low
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
VoiceVolume = 70
2. then save the file as "options.ini" in your mydocuments folder.
3 then run the exe for zero hour and generals.
this also worked for my windows vista and 7 machines. but on windows seven i had to put the option file in the cand c generals and zero hour folder.
(also set the exes for zero hour and generals to compatiablitiy mod for xp s3 and run as admin.)
Re: Vista and Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour
Here's how I (finally!) got C&C Generals to work on Vista:
Installed using XP SP2 and Adminstrator compatibility.
Patched to 1.8
Created options.ini using info from here vistareadygames which is given below:
Code:
Okay, in your documents folder, there should be a folder called "Command & Conquer Generals Data", open it and create a .txt file called "options" (without quotes); open it up and paste this inside:
AntiAliasing = 1
BuildingOcclusion = yes
DrawScrollAnchor =
DynamicLOD = no
ExtraAnimations = yes
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = true
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1024 768
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseCloudMap = yes
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 100
Click File>Save As, change "Save as type" to "All Files" and add ".ini" (again, without quotes) to the end of "options" in the "File name" field. Save and exit. Delete the old "options.txt".
Created 2 more .txt files called "Skirmish" and "SkirmishStats" (no quotes), and save them in the same way as before, but leave them empty. Try running the game again, in admin mode if you don't have UAC turned off.
Do the same for Zero Hour if you have it.
I then replaced game.dat with game.dat for no-cd version 1.7 from gamecopyworld
Set generals.exe game executable using Xp and Adminstrator compatibility.
And it worked.... all I can say is that I'm amazing :drool:
Re: Vista and Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour
i got this info off this site http://forums.techarena.in/windows-v...es/1105080.htm and now i can run in windows 7 64 : )
I had to creat the options.ini file then just pasted the settings in and job done. Once in game i could then wack all settings to High.
Ok guys, I got it to work. So, here is everything I did.
1. Go to your "C:\Users\{your name}\Documents\Command and Conquer
Generals Zero Hour Data" folder and open options.ini. I set the
following settings:
AntiAliasing = 0
DrawScrollAnchor =
FirewallBehavior = 0
GameSpyIPAddress = 192.168.0.1 (make sure you use your own IP)
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 192.168.0.1 (make sure you use your own IP)
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor = 0
MusicVolume = 61
Resolution = 800 600
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 58
SFXVolume = 53
ScrollFactor = 60
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = lOW
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
VoiceVolume = 70
This may or may not matter but do it anyway just to be sure.
2. right click on the .exe file that launches the game (or the shortcut
on your desktop), select "Properties", and set the following:
-under the "Shortcut" tab set Run: Maximized
-under the compatibility tab set Compatibility mode for "windows XP
service pack 2" but make sure you click it and make the check mark in
the box black, not grey.
-then, after you do the step above, click "Run this program as
administrator" and then click "Set these settings for all users" and
then apply everything, ok, etc.

I take it you tried the above regarding the "options.in" and updated all your drivers?
Have you tried downloading the latest patch for the game think its v1.4?
