New build with only M.2 NVMe drive?
Im currently in the process of building my first ever gaming pc.
I was originally planning to pick up a lower capacity M.2 NVMe drive for Windows and a larger capacity SSD for games/files etc. After researching a little I decided to go with just a larger capacity M.2 NVMe drive for both booting and file storage (for now at least).
Is there any drawbacks to this approach?

Hey there, no there aren't any drawbacks, NVMe drives are much faster than SATA drives and should last you a long time.
I do have to mention that NVMe drives don't make a huge difference for Windows or games, maybe 1-2 seconds vs SATA SSDs, you can have a look on YouTube for "NVMe vs SSD" comparisons.
For the same price as a the NVMe you could get double the storage as SATA. That said, if you have the budget and don't need like 2TB then definitely go for the NVMe.

Although Windows can reinstall without wiping drives nowadays but if there ever needs a reformat then it'll be more troublesome with 1 drive. That's about it really.

I think after a year they probably got their answer!

That's what partitions are for. Have a 200GB partition for the OS, leaving the rest for everything else. That way you can reinstall without affecting whatever else is on the drive.

I did exactly this after getting a deal on the 1TB P1 drive and no complaints so far :-)

Much tidier looking build this way. Got a 1tb mp600 and a 2tb hoping it'll be plenty of space for a games set up for a while
