    To much exercise?

    Hello all, I'm getting into shape a little lately and I'd like your thoughts on my training schedule please.

    Mon 4 mile run 35mins
    Tue 2pm 20 mins on punch bag with 3x8 multi gym. 6pm 20mins HITT
    Wed 4 mile run
    Thurs rest day
    Fri 4 mile run
    sat 2pm 20 mins on punch bag with 3x8 multi gym. 6pm 20mins HITT
    sun 10k run 1hr 20 mins

    I started training back in January this year and stopped and started but now I'm loving it. I have lost 2 stone in weight and I'm feeling loads better. Could any of you give me some pointers as I've still a bit of lard left to move around the old beer belly. My diet is fine maybe to many carbs but then I'm sort of a vegetarian so loads of quorn salads pasta etc.

    My main goal is to start kickboxing at a local club but i have a massive confidence problem i need to get in shape first. many thanks for any help you can give me.

    Re: To much exercise?

    I don't think you can healithy shift weight much faster, so just keep at it and as long as you eat as your body demands you'll eventually get to a healthy weight and stabilise and the beer belly will gradually shift (takes ages).

    Re: To much exercise?

    I've started to lose weight in feb and i've lost 3stone 11lbs, I've learned a great deal too.

    Your body can only lose 2lbs(healthily)a week, I think your spreading your workout over the week badly.

    Have you been doing no weight training? It's important you do weights to keep your muscle. You've probably lost muscle mass. Do you take supplements?

    Muscle =
    *Shape
    *Higher metabolism = Burn more calories when not active

    I've changed your exercise plan

    Mon = 4 mile run 35mins
    20 mins on punch bag with 3x8 multi gym.
    6pm 20mins HITT ?(what is this)

    Tuesday = Light Cardio = Situps w Medicane ball, Speed walk, bike(Warm body up)
    Free Weights biceps and back

    Wed = Rest day

    Thursday = Light Cardio
    Weights Legs

    Friday = Light Cardio
    Weights triceps and chest

    Sat = Rest

    Sun = 10k run 1hr 20 mins(if you must)

    What's your diet like?

    HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training.

    Hardcore cardio work. 1 min jogging then 30 seconds full on sprinting with no rest inbetween etc.

    Re: To much exercise?

    You don't need to be particularly fit to start kickboxing, you'll probably find that it works different muscles though. The most important thing is flexibility so you need to do plenty of stretching.

    It's been a while since I did it, but I loved it - presumably it's semi-contact. Continuous sparring with all the gear on will cause the weight to drop off. I was reasonably fit, but couldn't keep it up for 3 mins - are you using full size gloves on the punchbag?

    No i don't take any supplements can you recommend some. Weight training on the multi gym only. No i really don't have to do the 10k run on a Sunday it was just for fun anyway. My diet on a typical day is as follows not forgetting I'm sort of a vegetarian.

    Breakfast: Shreddies, piece of fruit.

    mid morning 2 slices wholemeal bread low fat spread

    lunch porridge semi skimmed milk piece of fruit

    dinner quorn fillets veg/salad eggs

    That's about it most days really, sometimes i change the lunch from porridge to eggs. Looks like I'm in the need of some free weights dam more money lol.
    I'm starting to regret getting the multi gym.

    Re: To much exercise?

    What weight gloves? Are you wearing headgear and foot guards? I'm guessing adidas bag gloves are similar to 'points' style kickboxing gloves - if not, you should be trying something like this:

    http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/gba-560-10295283/

    If your gloves are as heavy as that, and you can do continuous sparring for say, 90 secs at a time, start kickboxing now, it's much more fun than going down the gym.

    Re: To much exercise?

    As others have said... you are doing too much imo...

    My advice is, just get into kickboxing now, you sound more than fit enough. Then plan your training around the kickboxing...

    Re: To much exercise?

    Yes i think your all right, I have been pushing myself for the past 5 weeks. Went for a 3 mile run last night and managed to beat my best time by 3mins, feeling very knackered today so I'm having a weekend off. Going to join the kickboxing club next week. Thanks very much for your input chaps

    Re: To much exercise?

    Also try to do some real weights, that multi gym thing is crap.

    Tips for kickboxing:
    1) groin guard, shin/instep pads, hand wraps all essential for sparring (and gloves of course )
    2) if you don't stretch a lot in class, stretch before a lot, legs especially
    3) be ready to be hit a few times... it might hurt a bit
    4) when sparring keep hands up, keep moving
    5) throw combos, most people when starting only throw individual punches properly
    6) most importantly have fun

    The best investment you can make when taking up a combat sport is a good gumshield.

    Forget these boil and suck off the shelf pieces of crap, go get your dentist to make a mould of your mouth and get a professional one. Yeah it costs £35 but I'd rather spend that much upfront than a couple of hundred quid to get teeth re-implanted when your £15 boil in the bag one fails you.

    That and a groin guard.

    Oh yeh, I missed that one

    I never got one of those because I got injured before I got to the level where I was getting hit full on in the face in sparring (I was sill a noob)... A custom mouth guard is important if you want to get in and start fighting properly soon

    Re: To much exercise?

    35 quid is cheap as well. Mine cost 55 quid years back. Worthy investment though for sure. Most important pads I found were shins, groin and mouth. Never really needed the mouth guard much to be honest, but the groin and shins got their fair share of useage!
