My P.E. teacher used to make us do press ups down to the height of someones fist under your chest. Does everyone else go that low? I just put a mug under me to make sure I'm going to the lowest height, and it seems to hurt the most.
Its possible but very unlikely unless you have been training your shoulder for years without training your chest... Think of it this way, your bigger muscles are stronger than your smaller muscles
your chest muscles are much bigger compared to your shoulders

I just go down until I am about 1-2cm away from the floor...

Which part of the body are you using to determine that height

Second session (a few days late as I got about six in and my chest muscles screamed. Think I'm recovered now though.)

    Re: 100 press up challenge

This seems interesting so I'm going to give it a go. I used to be a fitness freak back in the day now I just sit around the house all day, dread to think what my initial test is going to be.

    Re: 100 press up challenge

I started off at week 3, and so far I've done the first 2 days of week 3. Hopefully I'll do the 3rd day today.

First day was Sunday, then Tuesday and it was supposed to be Thursday but I was out until midnight so was too tired when I got back.

Sounds cool i'm gonna give it a go, although only twice a week as I i'm working chest at the gym one night anyways! I'll do my initial test tomorrow night, I used to be able to do 25-30ish I think, but im only just starting working out again after a few years, and I got a fair bit more weight, will be lucky to scrape 15!

    Re: 100 press up challenge

I'm not sure I want to be able to do 100 pressups in a row, nor am I sure that I'd be capable- I was a sprinter when I did competitive athletics, I'm more built for power than endurance (and consequently I'm physically quite dense- BMI of maybe 23-23.5 when there's no flab on me).

At uni I regularly did 3x sets of 30 with proper form- proper straight back, feet on tiptoes, hands shoulder width apart for maximum height, chest touching the ground on every rep (a tennis ball under your chest? Don't make me laugh! ). After that I graduated to the same form with my feet on a chair, which I find exercises the chest and shoulders more (my pecs have always been relatively less impressive than my triceps). Got up to around 3x28 of those. TBH once I can do 30 reps of any exercise (even crunches) I increase the weight, I don't go for more and more reps- in fact in the gym if I can do more than 15 reps before total muscle failure I reckon I'm on far too low a weight. I don't train very scientifically, but usually if I manage 12-14 reps on my first set and 8-10 on my third I figure I've got it about right.

LOL, noone posted in this thread since. How did you guys get on with it? I'm guessing like me, you didn't do jack!

I'm gonna start it up again, since i'm too busy to make it down to the gym these days.
