Yep, that's why we only seem to do slightly above average when its an individual play (i.e. free kicks). Other than that, the Germans outplayed us so much with their teamwork.

The only mistake Capello made was to think that he can use the skills of these prima donnas like the game Football Manager. You can't.

Just let them play their own positions and hope for the best.

There will be people who will blame Capello for tactics. I hope he stays. There is much work to be done. You can only do so much with what is in front of you.

The germans hit them on the counter one two many times. The scoreline should have been 7-1. They treated England like schoolboys. That 1st goal was shocking at this level.

But bottom line is the media keep hyping these lot up. Why not say.. 'if we get past group stages it will be a miracle'.

What did Hansen say before the match, England look better on paper? Yeah he should take that paper and shove it up where the light dont shine. Germany outclassed us in every department, and Ozil what a player!

    Re: World Cup 2010 Thread!

Look on the bright side, the pundits have plenty to talk about as they dissect every inch of play. Lineker, Hansen and Shearer, perhaps the blandest and most unimaginative commentators the game has ever been blessed with will be able to keep sucking up their share of the license fee. After over 40 years of failure, can't we just accept that the way England plays football is just not good enough and virtually every Country has moved toward a more sophisticated style of play.

I wouldn't waste a penny on watching this lot kick a ball around every week when a half decent pub team could put the willies up them. It's been really rough on fans who have followed them all the way to SA.

Spain play the game the way it should be played imho.

Sums up what I have been saying for the past couple of years. We simply cannot play a possession based passing game. My nephew has started to go to a saturday morning football club and unfortunately he is being encouraged to go in hard, slide, tackle and long ball it. No emphasis on passing, moving, and using your technical ability. Players like Xavi would have never have made if they were born here.

    Re: World Cup 2010 Thread!

The reason for that attitude, in my eyes, is that everybody wants to win all the time - nobody's interested in playing a passing game when the kids can't pass accurately enough and then stuff it up all the time.

So if you've got a typical under-11s manager, he'll be delighted when he finds a Heskey, because they can just barge everyone else out of the way and score. Game won, but not particularly productive in terms of developing the kids' talent.

On paper they are a strong team, the Germans were young, largely unblooded compared to a weath of international experience and "high end" players.

A lot went wrong that day, and for me when people play that badly and its their job I've only so much blame for the guy sat on the bench yelling at them. It wasnt like they played brilliantly and were crippled by poor tactics, they were god-awful and lucky it wasnt twice as bad.

Maybe that's true but the Germans were actually playing the passing game AND the long balls. In fact, most of their goals were from counters. Therefore, there is only one thing to say, our English players are unfit and can't be bothered and all they want is the glory rather than the teamwork.

It's got nothing about position (other than the fact that these guys love playing their own positions). Those prima donnas have no idea how to play football period. Football is a team sport and all of them have good individual skills but no teamwork. They couldn't even pass the ball forward with some simple wall passes. The backs were passing the ball side to side like idiots.

Stick a central midfielder in a left midfield position and he wont be playing at his best.

You can pay him all the money in the world and he wont play to his full potential because that's not where he plays.

It has everything to do with position.
