    Take up Badminton

I know many will perceive badminton as a "girly sport" but from personal experience it can be good for raising your fitness. I was last year at a point where I could barely manage to play 10 minutes. Now after a year I can safely say I can play 1-2 hours easily. I being a heart patient and having had 2 surgeries (requiring possibly 1 more) find this to be amazing. In fact my doctor recommends I do more aerobic excercises regularly. I cannot run for extended hours though so I find playing badminton twice a week to help me out - and its great if you struggle with sleep a two hour session can do wonders.

I would strongly recommend joing a club or playing regularly. I am fortunate that we have a club that charges £1 for 2 hours.

Switched from tennis to badminton years ago, absolutely love it. Great sport, but not enough people taking part regrettably.

Used to play a LOAD of badminton - I was getting quite good at it too, but mountain biking is taking up all my time these days....

I wouldn't consider badminton a girly sport. I've been playing it on and off as a kid till now. I think badminton is a great sport! It's exciting and it's challenging. Just like any sport it requires skill. Good to hear that it's been helping you with your heart by the way! Hope all is well and that you continue to make badminton the key to your recovery and not letting others to demotivate you

    Agreed!

Prefer Badmington to tennis. Even though its slower, professional badmington is just crazy in comparison to amatuer. Its a good way to get an aerobic excercise too whilst being competitive which keeps it being interesting.

This reminds must sort a game out soon. Been too long.

Same. I like the speed of badminton versus tennis plus it can be played all year round. Handy in a country where the weather can be quite rubbish.

Slower? You’re the only person I know who thinks badminton is slower that tennis.

On the fitness side, assuming similar (good) level of skill for both tennis and badminton, the latter burns up to double the calories per hour apparently.

I started playing again for the first in years with work.

Really enjoy and it's great exercise.

Try Kendo and train for about 20 minutes in full gear and I can guarantee you will start becoming very fit.
