Like many others did, I would suggest going to the swimming pool.
It avoids excessive tension on your ligaments and your joints, and the water resistance helps you develop some muscular mass.
Personally tried gym myself several years ago, together with bro and dad in the hope we'd pull each other through. Alas, it didn't help and one became demotivated pretty fast. In the end, of the year we had to pay in advance, we barely did it 2 months.
Gym is pretty much wasted money (and time too, as in fact, results don't come fast at all, resulting in demotivation).
Gym is fine if u know what you are doing.

Gym is fine, maybe look for a smaller one in your area. You will be treated like more of a human than in these commercial gym's and wont suffer with a 12 month contract!
I tried a gym but realised that by driving to work, (a 25 mile round trip that often took nearly 30 minutes each way) and then working out for an hour, I was paying to travel and to get an hour's exercise. Switched to cycling, got nearly two hours exercise without paying gym fees, and saved petrol.
I set up a gym at home, because I'm a little self-conscious and figured it would be cheaper. I got an exercise bike for about £150, a bench for £30 and set of dumbbells for £30. That served me well for about a year to shed some fat and get a little more "fit"
Saying that, many more gyms are doing pay as you go, so that might be an option.
You can try home workouts if you are on a tight budget plus a discipline in your eating habits.
