It's a good source of broken fingers But apart from that, it's all right. Are you a batter or bowler?
wow thats quite nice to see left arm seamers. Because most batmans have hard time with playing against them. Specialy when the ball is swing. Yeah about fingers i saw lot of injuries in cricket. Related to bones. Once i saw a guy get crushed his toe from yoker.
Anyway whats your favorite sport now then?

I should play, but never get round to joining a team - bit sad really. Done nets sessions with teams a couple of times though. Bowl a variety of spin - my natural delivery is actually a well-flighted googly, but I've developed a range of wrist spin and finger spin variations to keep batsmen guessing I have no idea how good my batting actually is - I do OK against the kids in the park, but could do with playing against someone who can actually bowl.
Sadly, I was rubbish at school, so didn't get to play in the school teams or anything - I only realised I could bowl leg-spin when I was about 17, and of course by then I'd missed 5 years of playing experience, so when I went to uni I just wasn't as competent as everyone who'd played all the way through school. Since then I've never got round to finding a team. Probably should though: it'd be nice to do something active that didn't involve hanging around on ropes...
Indeed. Need a good wicket keeper though, and I don't get to bowl in casual matches where the batters aren't padded up
Don't do a lot these days, owing to injuries. Probably ballroom.Yeah about fingers i saw lot of injuries in cricket. Related to bones. Once i saw a guy get crushed his toe from yoker.

Like I said, I was rubbish at school, so I didn't get the chance to develop my game during my teens. By the time I realised I could bowl spin, it was too late to get into school teams, and when I went to uni I didn't have enough experience to get into the uni teams. Since then I've never really picked it up, because it's a bit daunting to turn up at a cricket club as an adult and tell them you think you're good but you've never actually played a proper match...
For next season, one approach might be to find a team with Sunday friendly side - getting rarer, due to diminishing number of players - also, maybe choose a club with more than 2 league teams and then find out when their nets start - might be Februaryish.
If you enjoy nets, simply ask about the chances of getting into the friendly side - league cricket might follow.
A lot of cricket teams are on play cricket http://www.play-cricket.com/home/home.asp - if the club is on play cricket, then be sure to see how many matches they play in the season and check whether a lot are scratched/cancelled, which in this good weather season, might be an indication that they couldn't get a full team - and that might mean 2 things: 1) better chance of getting in the team, or 2) the friendly side might fold.
I've come out of retirement for about the sixth time this year and tbh I am not enjoying fielding anymore - I might look for a different team next year - current one does not give everyone something to do, regardless of ability, which is what friendly cricket should be about imo - if you win then that is a bonus. Another aside is that no one goes for a beer after the game, apart from me and I can't drink for 11 people (although I do try my best).
Last time I looked (a couple of years ago?) there were a couple in Manchester that did, but when I emailed them their replies weren't particularly friendly or welcoming, so I didn't bother. Might be time for another trawl through for next year. Of course, ideally I'd know someone who already plays and just tag along with them, since I'm a bit of a social coward...
Absolutely!

I'd try phoning and then bear in mind that the person on the phone might not be representative of how friendly the club is. I hated turning up for nets this year - I do not enjoy meeting new groups of people, it's something I force myself to do, gets easier the more times I do it and when it leads to good things, I remember that the pain was worth it after all.
My gf has persuaded me that if she gets a job in Manchester then I'll move with her - I'll join the same club as you
Good stuff Manchester's alright - we wished we'd lived here before we lived in Birmingham though, it's more of a young person's city (IMNSHO, obviously). Since I last posted I've had a look around for clubs, and there's a couple I might get in touch with to find out when they'll be starting up nets again. Then I'll just have to take a deep breath and jump in!
It is one of my favorite game. I always used to play with my friends.
Probably played my last farewell tour game, again, on Sunday.
Better game atmosphere, less cliquey, more people included. My first over bowling, huge humidity meant I could swing in or out at will - felt fantastic. Big edge/easy catch missed Nvm. Next over, last "batsman" is 13/14 year old girl. So went round the wicket to diagonally miss possibility of bowled and reverted to non spinning lobs. She hit every ball.
Third over, I got bored and tried to tweak some spin, second ball came back from 4 inches outside of off stump. Held my head in shame.
So, my last cricket bowl, is to bowl out a schoolgirl - is that a better, or worse memory than being hit for six off last ball of career?
