We entered through charity places - ballot seems nigh on impossible... it did mean we ended up having to raise thousands, but with a mixture of fundraising activities including discovering our creative sides/making things to sell at Christmas craft fairs, we just about managed it.

Ouch, just noticed that picture b0redom posted - that's a beast of a bruise!

    Excellent. What's your time now?

My son is starting to sleep better again, so now I'm starting to think of training properly, again. Do you do Parkruns Butcher? I've only been to my local one once, but it was quite good fun.

24:54 was last night's time. Happy with that!

Not done a parkrun yet, I was thinking of doing this weekend, but I have a ragging sore throat tonight so might not be fit.

How's the running going Zak? Considering you started this thread, I've not seen an update from you in AGES!

Over a year to increase your PB b0redom?! Haha, but congrats on 45mins!
Is there any other threads like this, seems like a great idea.
Currently aiming to do the 200 squat challenge (google it, don't know if can link), to augment my running.

Do Brisk walking for an hour.
I brisk walk to my nearest Morrisons and then walk back. It feels invigorating and I am losing weight

If you need some serious motivation, watch the Rocky movies

That's certainly one way of looking at it. I don't really do 10k races very often though, and my old Garmin never tracked 10k as part of a longer set.

My 10km has gotten much worse, but I am blaming it on the 30-35C where I am at the moment.

    I am also supplementing it with 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and 100 squats..

...just not -every- -single- -day-. I don't want to become bald yet (anime fans would get the reference).

Blimey it's been quiet in here for a while! Has everyone stopped exercising, or just stopped bragging about it?!

Anyway, wanted to drop in because I did something a bit ... odd ... this weekend. Someone organised a sponsored bike ride for the local mountain rescue team, and since I like biking and I like walking around in the kind of areas I might need rescuing from by said mountain rescue team (if I was particularly careless), I figured I'd throw my hat in.

The route was short - less than 7 miles in total length - but the trick wasn't getting round - it was getting up! Someone thought it'd be a great idea to challenge people to ascend some well known peaks - by repeatedly biking up Snake Pass! So I took on the Snake Pass Peaks Challenge, aiming for a measly Scafell Pike - that's just three times up Snake Pass.

    https://www.strava.com/activities/1052421203

A total of just shy of 20 miles biking, a total elevation gain of almost 3500ft, in an elapsed time of 2h 51m, moving time of 1h 47m. Raised £65 for Glossop Mountain Rescue in the process. Quite chuffed with that

Then again, with this commute to work I should be getting good at biking up hills:

Re: Motivate Me: The HEXUS Excercise thread : post your pain ;-)

SFW, but not particularly pleasant: https://ibb.co/fVKwA5

33 now, 5 years ago I ran the London marathon in under 5 hours (I know but still) and at later points in my training and working out was down to 80kg (6'1); now over 100kg. Feel pretty ashamed about it.

Only parts of me that are in pain at the moment are the ankles. And the lower back. Cripes.

I get a decent amount of exercise with a dog and a bike (which I'm not using as much at the moment because I live at the top of a reasonably big hill compared to where I'd use it) - it's mostly my diet that is to blame. So I'm going to start eating less. Been far too often in the last 2-3 years that I've just had 2 lunches, or an entire pack of biscuits, just because I wanted to and I could.

Both yesterday and today I went for a short run, and a cycle down and up that big hill. Hopefully I can check in with some updates. My goal is to be down to 90kg by the time my good friend, a tai-chi instructor, comes up from London for what's going to amount to a 2 week boot camp.

Actually, what is amazingly motivating is Zwift. If you have a 'smart' turbo trainer you can race against other people. It's pretty good for structured training too. For anyone trying to lose weight, but who keeps putting off going to the gym, or heading out on their bike because the weather is a bit pants or whatever, give it a go....
