Maybe this should be the "Fans of Really Bad NFL Franchises Thread"?

I have a feeling the Detroit Lions may not be a NFL franchise, they play like a college team in the first part of some horrible coming-of-age teen movie.
Porcupine and Kanoe:
First time for Lions to beat the Packers at Lambeau since '91!
Congrats guys!

I know, it's bonkers!
I was watching it online, right up until 1:57 to go when my broadband crapped out. Time for a new supplier, if they can't let me see the Lions win in Lambeau.
It's absolutely ridiculous, on Friday I said to my friend 'The Lions are 1 - 7 and they're playing the Packers on Sunday'. We both laughed and now look! Look! Am I dreaming?
I popped to see the 49ers play Atlanta Falcons last weekend, was rather epic.

Although I live in Europe now I was raised in Florida and have always been a Miami Dolphins fan. I watched them win two super bowls in the early 70s.

Go on then, care to share your thoughts on it?Originally Posted by DR

Shame about the bizarre season they're having. Really hope the foundation for real growth and success gets set this year. New HC will be the biggest part of that. If it's Campbell then I really, really hope it's the right decision. And get the linebackers and OL sorted.

I was cynical - I've watched it on TV before and it dragged on at times with the stop/start but at the game it was immense, great atmosphere and you don't notice the time. I'd definitely go again - and now I totally get the rules it's simple to follow. I am sure I will go to a Raiders game at somepoint (assuming they don't move a million miles).
The reality is - since seeing it - I've watched 2 other games and followed it well. It's certainly entertaining.
Raiders - are you based in California?
I started watching when I just a kid, caught late night games on Channel 4. Something exotic about it. Once you get the 'flow' of the game it really does get exciting. Somehow connected with the Dolphins all those years back and so still follow them, hopefully they'll start winning consistently again.
Any aspect of the game you enjoy the most so far?

The Lions have made some shocking fourth down calls this season. Which is reflected in their win/loss record. I don't think they understand there is such a thing as strategy.
Is NFL similar to Rugby here in England? I've always been interested in it but I could never be able to understand how the scores work
It evolved out of rugby and shares similarities and goals, but is now significantly different in how it plays out.
This is a decent resource for learning about the game and the league and teams:
