Re: What does everyone ride? (Pedal powered)
I have commuted on it, but it's mainly for training/racing. I'd really like a proper TT bike, but it's probably not worth it given the fact that I'm nowhere near the pointy end when I do triathlons. It will quite happily cruise along at between 30-40kph depending on the length of the race I'm doing.

Ah, I remember those days. Mind you, I used to live on the Lincolnshire fens, so I benefited from a complete lack of slopes in either direction! Currently considering new bike options as I might be switching from a 3 mile urban commute to something a bit longer and hillier soon, and the Uni just won't cut it for that, sadly...

Sadly, the reason those pics got taken was that both the bike and trailer were sold earlier this week. Not that there was anything wrong with them or that I didn't like them, you understand, I just don't think they're up to a 30 mile round trip daily commute from the edge of the Pennines ;)
New wheels incoming. Pics from somewhere along my commute will happen. I'll try not to make you too jealous ;)

Used to have a sturdy af XL mtb, now have a cyclocross pinnacle which i'm pretty happy with. want to build my own bikes in the future, would like to do a bike mechanics' course first tho

I've been building up my own bikes since I was 14, there's no need to do a course? Bikes are just giant, simple meccano sets, it's pretty difficult to go wrong if you follow the instructions which you can get from a book or the web. Really there is nothing difficult about it, just take your time & do your research.

I've got a Rockhopper Pro and a Giant Defy 1 Disk. I started with the Rockhopper Pro for mountain biking and ended up switching to road biking this year.

Well so you say, but I wouldn't want to be doing 40mph down hill on 23mm of rubber knowing that I was the one who put the brakes together. Just saying like....

It's very nice to commuting on bikes, It just fits and thrilling to have mine having kross k10.

That'll get your heart rate going...... :)

Good Lord Jim... that's a fair yomp :)
Re: What does everyone ride? (Pedal powered)
It's turned out to be a nicer commute than I thought it might, and given that today was my first day doing it I'm pretty chuffed with the traces tbh - I've not done much biking at that sort of distance for ... well, more than half my lifetime, I guess ... so it's a good place to be starting some stamina training from!
Trip back was 1h 9m moving time - as you can see from the topo it's mostly downhill on the way to work, which means it's basically all uphill on the way back! Need to get tonight's trace on Strava to see what the segments are like. The legs were definitely feeling it by the time I got home ;)

If you don't know how your brakes work then you really shouldn't be doing 40mph downhill on 23mm of rubber!! :)
In other news I was walking the dog last night when I heard what I thought was a shotgun being fired. Walked to end of the road to find a guy standing by his mtb with a literally exploded rear wheel, never seen anything like it, the rim had literally blown apart into several pieces, every spoke was trashed as well. It was good bike too, a Whyte only a few months old. I looked at him and then the bike again but didn't have the heart to tell him the what issue was.......... poor machine built, light weight wheels and him about 4 stone too heavy for them. Just checked he was ok and had a someone coming to get him.

Oh I know how they work, I'm just completely mechanically inept!
