    Variations With Age

What changes have you Guys / And Girls made to your individual fitness routines as you've gotten older?

I'm thinking over the age of 35, but I suppose the question could apply to anyone

And I'm asking from a perspective of avoiding injury, while maintaining a good level of fitness. Thanks for reading.

    Re: Variations With Age

If you've got the basics right (eg stretching, warm downs etc.) then no changes needed.

    Re: Variations With Age

    Since hitting 35?

I took up rock climbing, started biking again, went on the 5:2 fast diet and lost around 10kg, and then moved to the countryside upping my cycle commute by 5x the length and giving me a lot more opportunities to get out into the wilds.

Although I admit that my experience may not be typical

I took up Ironman and karate. Between them they keep me reasonably fit.

Similarly my experience may not be typical. ;-)

    Re: Variations With Age

    Since leaving the Army:
I got a motorcycle and stopped walking everywhere - Bad.
    I married a food-lover - Very bad.
I took up Boxing, martial arts and WW2 re-enactment - Very good.
I sustained a number of injuries, which meant I could no longer do the above (none of which were from the above, incidentally) - Fatally bad.
I got one, then a second, then a third dog, all of which are seriously tireless working breeds - Very good.
I cut meals from three down to one a day - Seriously bad.

But after all of that, it's only in the last year or so that I've started putting on weight...
I'm now looking for some activities that will get be back to being active, which don't rely on the Mrs joining in (because she's that inconsistent).

    Hello Ttaskmaster,

What "injuries" did you get that're holding you back? I ripped something inside my left shoulder from doing the heavy bag to much, so now I just run and do some light strength stuff.

You might find this boxing explanation interesting, concerning defense, counters and moving to angles . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHwPBTDDp00https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHwPBTDDp00

I'll see what I have knocking around. I was usually in front of the camera, though.

Not heard of Bernard Hopkins before, as I'm more into the old school boxing... as in James Figg, Jack Broughton sort of stuff... but he seems like quite a nice guy!
Certainly everything he was saying I was nodding and smiling at. Not often I hear a modern explanation of it.
He's basically covering some of the same Principles that George Silver wrote about in Paradoxes Of Defence, 1598 - It was true back then, it's true today!

    What, driving Toyotas?
Wow, I'd never have thunk it...!!

Unless they're spending most of their time running after Pikachu, or have so much weight and never get out in the first place, I'd think it no different to walking the dogs...

Ingress is far more walking orientated than Pokemon Go. Known quite a few geeks which have got much fitter playing it.
