Re: Fitness tracker advice
Depending on how big you are, you might want to take it easy with the jogging at first it's pretty hard on the joints.
This guy does exhaustive reviews on fitness gadgets:

Depends on how much you want to spend, but some of the Garmin units talk to Strava which will give you your competition thing (against yourself with matched runs and others with segments).
Top tip - go out and do some segments on Jan 1st, and you'll get the yearly KOM at least for a day. :woowoo:
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I got a Xiaomi MiFit on the recommendation of some people on here, it's basic, but it syncs with an app on your phone and then to google Fit, if you have it. For under £20, it's a good toe in the water to see if a tracker suits you and will help...
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I upgraded from a Fitbit Charge HR recently to a Fitbit Charge 2, and I'm happy.
IMHO, a tracker with a heart rate monitor is essential - otherwise you don't get any credit for doing non-step-based exhausting stuff, like DIY, and it's pretty disheartening to be told "you're not exercising enough!" when dripping with sweat. Battery life is also decent, and the app works well (and integrates well with MyFitnessPal, for food tracking)
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I've got a Fitbit Blaze.
You can pick up trackers dirt cheap second hand, usually because people buy them, use them for a month and then slip into old habits and the tracker sits on the shelf gathering dust.
As above, HR is a must. :)
Re: Fitness tracker advice
My onky input is to suggest taking any readings with a certain degree of scepticism. I watched a TV comparison (might've beeb BBC Click) some time back where they compared seceral different brands and models with each other, and also several different identical modeks with each other. For instance, 5 people all wearing the same model running up the same set of steps (a couple of hundred steps), or even a single person doing a given routine several times, and the results weren't terribly consistent. Certainly, when using them to measure distance from point A to point B, such as x loops round a track, they ween't all that accurare.
I get the point about using self-competition to measure, monitor, motivate and encourage yourself, but if that test's conclusions are anything to go by, a degree of caution about results is advisable.
Of course, regular usets here may have a different view,
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I personally like Xiaomi Mi , its pretty basic but its cheap and does the job. For a more feature rich tracker try Fitbit Charge 2 which is quite handy with the heart-rate reader
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I can really recomend Fitbit Charge 2. Freaking awsome gadget. Just remember to take is easy when you start out. Walking for 1 hour does good too. If ur not use to training hard you might end up hurting your self instead. Best of luck to you!
Re: Fitness tracker advice
Another vote for the Xiaomi Mi, it's a fantastic device for the money. It was up for sale on websites like Gearbest for £16 recently. It's not the best device in the world but you have to pay at least 4 times as much to get something better.
Re: Fitness tracker advice
Xiaomi Mi band2 is definitely a good cheap way to see if you're actually going to keep using a fitness tracker, since most use it as a gimmick for two weeks and then stop.
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I've got a fitbit surge and it's useless.
The software is pointless.
The system regularly takes 2 min plus to get a GPS lock. Often stops recording pulse when jogging or running. Wish I'd got the Garmin.
What astonishes me about the fitbit is the way it says oooh yey, you did exercise today when it might count a 35 min gentle walk. My MS Band I had before was far more useful, "cycle, cardio benefit: light" and so forth. I think the fitbit is for people who don't actually want to improve at anything, but want an excuse to justify a desert.
If you want something that lets you easily see long term trends in your running or cycling or whatever, it's completely useless.
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I'm using Mi band, it is a very good optio if you are serious in tracking your fitness.

Re: Fitness tracker advice
I've had the Huawei Watch GT 2 for a while and been really impressed with it, i know they have a bit of a bad rep at the moment.
Re: Fitness tracker advice
I had a fitbit blaze for a number of years until the heart rate monitor just upped and died so wanted to get something with nfc so I got the fossil carlyl. Now I've done barely any exercise but it's good for contact less payments.
