I've been a member of a coastal rowing club since the start of the year, getting out in the skiff is great exercise a good social event and being in the Forth we get amazing views of the bridges that never get boring.
Does anyone else row (gym doesnt count!) as techniques and tips are always welcome!
Basically I just need someone to talk rowing with that won't glaze over after 2 minutes of me talking about footrests and oars :D

Not currently, but when I first went to uni (a VERY long time ago) I did join the rowing club. Unfortunately, a family funeral and fresher's flu consecutively took me out of both team trials, and since I wasn't in one of the crews I let it lapse.Quote:

The main technique lesson I learned was that hitting the stroke hard was more important than having a fast stroke rate. SO you pull hard then use the return to recover the energy and you end up putting more power through the stroke and going faster.
"long and hard" is shouted a lot in our boat :), too fast and you have to rush to catch up if you have a long stroke, I'm not tall but i do get right back.
I always feel strange on the gym machines as you have your hands far apart and pull to the centre and my body doesn't want to do that!
If anyone is up in Edinburgh for the festival give me a shout and we might be able to get you out if you fancy a shot.
No!! It would involve way too much effort and I would be worried about being swept out somewhere,or being run over by some kind of ship.
Although the Moose is a very good swimmer.
We tend to try and avoid hitting stuff, it's one rule we are all fairly comfortable with :D
