microfibre towels after showering
Hey All,
I was wondering if anyone has much experience using a Microfibre towel after showering?
I run into work a couple of times a week and currently use a bath towel which takes a while to dry and is a bit bulky.
I am a bit sceptical about how good they are at actually drying compared to a normal towel.
Re: microfibre towels after showering
I use one when Im camping - they don't dry as well as a conventional towel, but they do dry out much quicker than a conventional cotton towel - partly because they don't absorb as much water!
Re: microfibre towels after showering
I use them when I go camping and traveling in the MG as space is at a premium and they are brilliant. I started with just 2 normal microfibre towels but last year I got a Life Venture Trek Towel
http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/lifevent...-large-p367261
It's large enough and folds into a pack not much bigger than a mobile, great at drying, but its very thin and gets wet very quickly but dries very quickly. As its very thin it isn't much use if its very cold as its not warm (think Silverstone unheated shower block in April).
Re: microfibre towels after showering
I use them for gym showering. They feel horrible compared to cotton towels, and as mentioned, seem to get wet very quickly, but since they are so thin/light it's easy to get a huge one and just move to a dry bit of the towel. They are effective though, and do dry quickly afterwards.
Re: microfibre towels after showering
My main worry is I'll end up with a wet towel and me still not dry.
Looking at amazon you can get a 2 x 1 metre one for about 15 quid which I'm guessing should be plenty big enough..
Re: microfibre towels after showering
Have used them for travelling/camping/etc they're great and they dry fast when hung up, but you do need to buy decent ones.
Also, while many things are marketed as "Microfibre", that's technically the sort of fluffy yellow cloth you get for cleaning cars. What you want is actually "Microfleece", which is the thin, lightweight towel.
We have one for each of the three dogs on rainy days, and you don't get much wetter than furbabies!! Their coats just soak up water, yet we rarely need more than one towel (small bath-towel/ensign flag size) for all three of 'em.
They're designed to wick, not wipe, so teh best technique I find is to drape the towel over them, and rub the outside of the towel, rather than rubbing the towel over them directly. Something about augmenting the wicking.
Re: microfibre towels after showering
Use one weekly when cycling to work and have had one previously for camping. Buy the largest one you can get as a 'large' can be a bit skimpy, it won't be that much bigger folded but will help with the fact they don't absorb as much water. My current one is a Eurohike travel towel - seems better than the previous one for absorption and the larger size helps as well.

+1 to the last two posts. Get bigger than you think - at least XL if not bigger. And get a good brand, the cheap ones are awful, the bigger ones feel and work much better. Use them for anything where I have to pack and carry a towel - and I really don't mind them. Especially back-packing/trekking/mini breaks etc where luggage size+weight matters. I tend to go for lifeventure ones - they perform well IMO.
