England won the CRICKET World Cup

We have won the World cup. Yet, there's no buzz here on Hexus or on the streets.
What sort of a victory is this when there's nothing on the streets to say we have won? When India won, Indians and Brit Indians were drumming and there were parades everywhere and they were even feeding strangers sweets.

    WTH?

No, they're only in the semi finals (and as I type, currently trailing New Zealand). Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Ah I didn't see the reference. NZ just beat us in the semi for the netball world cup. Very close though.

Or because it was only shown on subscription TV services (apart from the final whien Sky allowed it to be shown on free-to-air TV and consequently received little publicity.

Eh? It was all over the news, the final had massive viewing figures and they even met the PM (bit harsh seeing as they won).

C4 even ran a caption competition.

But, how has this been celebrated ? Where's the fanfare on the streets? Where's the parade ? It's come home after so many years and yet we see no interest by the people or the media.

I guess much of it will be because it's not been free to air for years so it may not be as much in the general mindset as it would have a while back.

Heard nothing about it in the news, not a single person at work has mentioned it... Can't be very important, in that case.

Re: England won the CRICKET World Cup

there has been a bit of news coverage of this feat.. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/cri...-a4195076.html

    the umpire miscounted a run.

wonder if ther'll be an appeal and the result overturned?

Doubtful and that run is debatable, the rules are a tad ambiguous.

Plus if Stokes needed 3 off the last ball he would have twatted it rather than pushing it and either way there wouldn't have been a super over

After choking like they did in the first test, to say I'm surprised is an understatement.

I'm choking at not putting a bet on.

Maybe the Ireland Test was a practice run for yesterday.
