    Huel 3.0

I finally had my first Huel product today, a 500ml chilled Chocolate Shake and have to say it was very tasty, so much so I was tempted to ask the driver to go back and get a few more!

However, the price of £3.50/500ml wasn't very tasty and made me think if the powdered version was as good I'd actually start to get it.

I nearly resurrected the original Huel post, but after looking at Huels website the formula evolves and we're now on 3.0

So I was interested in knowing whether any of you have used the Huel powder for a while and how you're getting on with it, also whether you've tasted the chilled & powdered versions of your preferred flavours and how they compare in taste & texture.

Currently I'm trying a MyProtein Meal Replacement blend, in terms of vitamins & minerals it's quite good, it does feel like I've eaten something and gives a surprising kick on the energy levels, but it's not a great taste or texture.
I'm looking for things with minerals and vitamins at the moment because I've recently finished chemo & had a major op on the liver & bowel so I'm trying to give my body some extra help, looking at the Huel ingredients this would probably be a very good thing.

    Re: Huel 3.0

I tried the original vanilla stuff a few years ago, was a bit powdery and tasted a bit odd, but I chucked some Cadburys chocolate powder in and it was fine.

Also tried one of their berry ones as I saw a machine at Heathrow so grabbed one while I was waiting for my bag, that was nice, but as you say, not cheap.

    Re: Huel 3.0

I'm on the 3.0 meal replacement one, also to help chemo recovery. Energy wise it does the trick, taste wise it needs something in it (I tend to add banana and honey then blend it,) and it is still slightly chalky in texture.

    Re: Huel 3.0

Thanks, I think I'll give it a try once I've finished the current MyProtein haul
I do prefer the Huel list of ingredients.

    Re: Huel 3.0

I've not tried V3 but some flavours are hit and miss, grab samples if you can as even the same flavour over different revisions can taste wildy different.

Their flavour boost packets are more expensive than just addiing cocoa or peanut butter etc to the plain/vanilla flavours, also they use stevia which personally I can't stand the taste of, weirdly they don't use stevia for their pre-flavoured powders.

Huel always left me physically full but I always also felt like I was missing texture of 'real' food which was unsatisfying.

    I'd agree with that assessment.

Yeah I'd agree with that as well, feels odd not actually eating anything..

    Re: Huel 3.0

    Cheers guys.

Annoyingly their sample bundles work out surprisingly expensive as they include items & flavours I don't want, especially banana, which I have to avoid for now.

It appears they've removed the Stevia in 3.0, in favour of: "Sucralose, Bacillus Coagulans". Can't say I'm knowledgeable enough to know if good or bad, but it's also in the MyProtein blend so it's too late now.

    Re: Huel 3.0

I quite enjoy my protein bars and have sampled quite a few different brands.
Huel were firmly down the lower end of my personal rankings, so if those are anything to go by the rest of their stuff will be similarly pricey and similarly hideous...

    Re: Huel 3.0

Finally arrived at the bottom of the bag of my protein blend, and have put my order in for some standard Huel chocolate and salted caramel...
Couldn't resist a couple of boxes of the chilled bottles as well.

In terms of price, its a little more expensive than MyProtein if comparing purely by weight, but happy to pay for the better ingredients. If tastes better and has a better texture I'll probably stick with it.

A few things I don't like about the ordering process, you have to buy a minimum qty of any item, so if I only wanted 1 bag and 1 box of chilled I couldn't do it. This means I've had to spend £112 just to get 2 items effectively. For this reason I didn't order the Huel bars. Because I'd have to buy so much of them and would be a huge waste if I didn't like it. They definitely need a better system for new customers who don't know what they like by way of free flavour samples, or a way to buy smaller bags.

Based on 3.5KG it will last me for ages. I only have at the moment 1 serving every other day of MyProtein, a 1KG bag has lasted me 3 months so, 3.5KG will last me quite a while, although I hope as I get a bit stronger and active I'll be aiming for 2 servings at least per day.

That sucks, seems a reasonable change judging by their reasons but it puts it over that imaginary "a touch too expensive" line.
