    Hard Drive Question

I recently tested my hard drive in the Windows 7 benchmark programme, and it scored a total of 5.9/7.9, despite being 1tb, 7200rpm, and having a cache of 32mb (plus it's Samsung). I'm not expecting it to be perfect, but this is a bit low. Does anyone know a way I can improve the speed? I have heard of enabling Advance Performance, but it has it's risks. Has anyone done this? Would they recommend it (I use a desktop PC with consistent power).

    Re: Hard Drive Question

I thought it only goes to 5.9?

I have always had advanced performance on, and I don't even know what it does

    Re: Hard Drive Question

Thats a good rating for a HDD and size has no bearing on the rating. Even a RAID setup of X-25M's only reached 7/7.9 on the Windows 7 rating scheme.

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Sorry edited, actually using Windows 7.

I was wondering how to get a higher score, what could I do differently? Is the way I partitioned it relevant?

    Re: Hard Drive Question

Its too do with the hard drives read/write sppeds and I/O operations - hence thats why a RAID set up can give you a better score.

    Re: Hard Drive Question

    Okay, thanks.
Have you tried Advanced Performance, though?

    Re: Hard Drive Question

What the advanced performance does is enable cached writes, windows does not wait for confirmation from the drive that the data has in fact been written. If there is power loss to the system when it is writing data those files will will be corrupted. This includes pressing the power button on the front! This is only recommend for computers that have an uninterruptable power supplies (thats battery backup for the whole computer) or have a battery backed disk controller.

    Re: Hard Drive Question

Somewhat ironic, but my Samsung F2 (5400RPM) has the same score. Still, I wouldn't read much into it given that the F1 *is* a faster drive, at least in most circumstances.
