Thats it, im impatient, have over £3k burning a hole in my pocket, wanna spend sub £200 on an SSD. Which one ? Has to be from scan, tomorrow, and in stock.
Andy.
Or..aria, just a bit further to travel.

This Intel X25-M looks good for the money:

IIRC, this is the faster second generation version. I would make sure with Scan first before purchasing it though.
Here is a review:

There is also the OCZ Vertex too:

This review of various SSDs will be useful:

The Intel.
I bought my Vertex like 2 days before it was announced =/ if i had known, i probably would have spent a few extra quid and waited 2 extra months for my SSD, lol.
Yeh, if you can be bothered to read the anandtech article then Intel is win followed by Indilix controlled ones: Vertex etc.
only a 70mbs write speed !? And a 59seconds boot up !? Really doesnt seem that much better than a 1tb hdd.
Maybe get the 160Gb version of the newer intel SSD's ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Not sure, but those figures arent doing much for me, im tempted for now to just buy a HD322HJ and format it to 160gb or so and wait for the SSD market to sort itself out a bit.
either the 120GB OZ Vertex or intel 160GB - i personally would go for 120GB it's KICKA55 !!
If this is going to be for your O/S and selected apps, Then just get a SSD, Hard drives are just not worth it anymore unless your using them for mass storage or cheap quick buys.
If you got the money just order a SSD but watch out for the Corsair not all of them are that good
Boot ups are significantly faster with an SSD than with a hardrive.
Yes the 70MBs sequential write isn't much different to a normal hardrive but it's pretty damn misleading of you to quote just one of the 4 numbers and dismiss the product with it when in the other 3 main areas it destroys a hardrive.
Seqential write sure it's a disapointment that this is similar to a normal hardrive
Random write - 40 times as fast as a hardrive
Seqential read - 3 times as fast as a hardrive
random read - 200 times as fast as a hardrive
Of course then there is the added benefits of silent, less power used and less heat generated.
Cost is certainly still an issue and there is plenty of good reason to continue to wait before buying but to suggest it isn't much better than a hardrive is simply false. Anyone spending much over a grand on a pc today should be throwing in an SSD.
If seqential write is a big issue to you go with someone other than intel as those will beat a normal hardrive by 2 or 3 times at seqential write, the intel does seem to still be the best product overall though despite this limitation.

I have the intel drive and can't recommend it enough - in reality it's stupid fast. Sequential write speed is pretty irrelevant for an OS drive which will spend 99% of it's time doing random read/writes (and of that far more reads anyway). Boot up is much faster than my RAID 0 mechanical array and opening programs is instantaneous - in addition it never falls foul of thrashing (e.g. when loading all your tray apps on startup) like a mechanical drive. My PC spends more time in the bios than loading windows![]()
What dangel said.
The figures really do not tell the true picture. You really have to use one to realise what it gives you, then you won't want to use mechanical drives again.
