Question Upgrading my hard drive - Reccommendations?

    Hi,
So I have decided to upgrade my hard drive since my old one is starting to fill up. I have decided to replace the old drive since it's a few years old so it's probably slower than modern drives.

Right now I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320 GB Hard Disk according to the PB site: Here It's a S-ATA II drive.

I am looking to upgrade to at least a 750GB but a 1TB drive would be good for me too. I have mostly used my PC for gaming but now I am going to be doing a lot of video editing soon so am going to need a lot more room and a faster drive. I have a max budget of about £100 for this upgrade.

So, any suggestions about what I should get?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    I would look at a Samsung F3 1TB:

Re: Upgrading my hard drive - Reccommendations?

I'd go for Samsung F3 1TB or the WD Black 1TB. WD is slightly more expensive but to be honest both perform equally good. You could look at their warranties and see which offers a longer one as benchmarks aren't so conclusive IMO.

They're both roughly the same price at Ebuyer and Scan so choose whichever retailer you trust more (IMO they're both equally good)

    Samsung F3 1TB:
    Ebuyer - £68.10
    Scan - £68.11

    WD Black 1TB:
    Ebuyer - £72.43
    Scan - £72.43

Re: Upgrading my hard drive - Reccommendations?

I have an older PC with a 200Gb WD2000JB SATA drive. How much of a performance boost would I receive by upgrading to a 1Tb WD Black or Samsung F3? I don't need the capacity so I would only consider it if the performance gains were noticeable.

I had to upgrade my hard disc from a Spinpoint T to an F3 as the former was having issues. The PC is a bit more snappier IMHO and programmes tend to start up a bit quicker.

Re: Upgrading my hard drive - Reccommendations?

If you've got the money you can get the 2TB samsung for £86.25 delivered

May be useful for someone although it is not exactly fast, it provides immense storage for the price though.

    edit: meant seagate

+1 for the Samsung F3. That 2TB drive is great value but as you said it's not that fast when compared with something like an F3/7200.12.

You mean Seagate and not Samsung

That is really cheap though, that works out at 4p per 1GB of data. It is indeed truly amazing for the price. Although at 5900RPM, as you said, it won't be the fastest drive and will be a storage drive instead.
