Intel SSD Suddenly Stops Boot

Woe is me
I have spent the last 3 months building my dream system and finally completed it a couple of weeks ago. On booting it today I got a splash screen from my EVGA Classified that just 'hung' and hung and hung, hhmmmmmmmm.

I have by process of elimination found my nice shiny Intel 80GB SSD (2nd gen)
to be the problem. Bios boots perfectly normally with a windows cd/other connected but not with the SSD - motherboard reads POST code 75 (IDE issue) and hangs until the bios finally states 'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND ENTER" and will do no more. SSD is not recognised in bios - as it previously has been I hasten to add.

I have tried different sata ports, swapped the power, diconnecting all other drives and still no good. I must add that it was all working fine for 3 weeks or so, I am really confused and really frustrated - can anyone help me please beofre i go

Change the SATA settings to ACHI/RAID rather than IDE - my uncle had same problem and appernelty the Intel drives only support RAID/ACHI mode.

That would be, without putting too fine a point on it, more than a little bit wrong. Mine works absolutely fine in IDE mode - and is doing so as I type.


Syd, it looks like the SSD has shook a seven although have you tried another SATA cable? Not that I'd be able to explain why a cable might suddenly give up but it's worth a shot.

Hmmmm - it was working in the default (IDE) setting before so that is confusing, but I will try it.

From my experience that was the only way the drive would work, each to their own.

Could be a quirk of the motherboard/s you tried it on. Mine works fine in IDE mode, as does the one I installed for a friend.

Possibly, it was an EVGA one i think.

Nope, tried different sata cable, tried switching to Raid mode - no difference - looks like my drive has just bricked itself
